Join our friend @home_with_plants_ for a moment of mindfulness and learn how to fold a traditional paper crane together!

According to Japanese tradition, it was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one's wish would come true.

You can either make a single crane with us, or create a crane jar by upcycling one of your empty Yankee Candle® vessels.

Materials needed:

For the origami crane only – you will need:

  • 1x square piece of paper of any size

Note: If creating the crane jar, your paper should measure no larger than 7 x 7cm to ensure your cranes fit in your jar.

For the crane jar – you will need:

  • 3 square pieces of paper measuring 7 x 7cm
  • An empty Yankee Candle® Jar
  • Thread (cotton or invisible)
  • Glue (glass glue required if sticking directly to the lid)
  • Decorative paper (optional)

  1. Take your thread and cut 3 varying lengths (make sure your longest length measures no more than 2 cm from the bottom of the jar so they have space to dangle).
  2. If using beads (optional), tie a knot, insert the beads and close with a knot, pulling the thread tight on each piece.
  3. Cut a circle out of paper around 6 cm in diameter.
  4. Use your glue to stick the tips of the thread onto the reverse of your circular piece of paper on one end, and then glue the tip of the other end of thread onto the body of the crane.
  5. Repeat for each crane.
  6. You should now have a circular piece of paper (decorated side facing up) with 3 cranes hanging from the bottom.
  7. Using glass glue, stick the decorative side of your paper to the glass and let this dry.
